An umbrella program entitled "Special Manpower Development Program for Chips to System Design (SMDP-C2SD)" has been initiated under Digital India Program in December 2014 at 60 Academic and Research & Development institutions spread across the country including IITs, NITs, IISc, IIITs & other institutions with an aim to train 50,000 specialized manpower over a period of 5 years in the area of VLSI design and inculcate the culture of System-on-Chip/System Level Design at Bachelors, Masters and Research level degrees.
Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India initiated “Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT” with an objective to enhance the number of PhDs in Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) and IT/IT Enabled Services (IT/ITES) sectors in the country.
Currently working on RISC-V based Processor Design under SMDP-C2SD.
The rapidly growing electronics market is likely to serve as an important growth driver for the Indian semiconductor industry. Despite the rising demand for electronics in India, very fewer measures have been taken to mitigate demand-supply gap for electronic products. Development of RISC-V Processor will a step forward towards accelerating country’s semiconductor industry.
