We have designed and synthesized two triptycene based monomeric building blocks 2,6-diazidotriptycene and 2,6,14-triazidotriptycene which have subsequently been utilized to synthesis of several linear chain polymers (TPTs) as well as network polymers (TNPs) via Cu(I)OAc catalyzed Sharpless “Click reaction”. The effect of reaction temperature on regioselective incorporation of 1,2,3-triazole motif for the synthesis of linear polymers (TPTs) has been studied. Amongst the TPTs, the fluorescent TPTs interact strongly with nitroaromatics (NACs). The resulting 1,2,3-triazole linked network polymers (TNPs) are microporous and exhibit high surface area (SABET) up to 1348 m2 g-1. TheTNPs also show high CO2 uptake (up to 4.45 mmol g-1 at 273 K and 1 bar) as well as very good CO2/N2 (up to 48) and CO2/CH4 (8–9) selectivity.
