Overview

The Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) at IIT Patna was established in 2008. Since its establishment, the department has been continuously growing in terms of student strength, faculty strength, infrastructure, laboratory, and other learning facilities. The department maintains an excellent student-to-faculty ratio. The department has more than twenty UG and PG laboratories, which are equipped with cutting-edge experimental setups and other learning resources.

The course curriculums are designed to achieve these objectives with the best quality. Apart from sharing theoretical knowledge as per the current industry demands, the department fosters cutting-edge research opportunities for its students, including those pursuing B. Tech., M. Tech., and PhD degrees.

For undergraduate aspirants, the department offers two programs: i) B.Tech. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and ii) B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering. For postgraduate aspirants, the department offers three separate M.Tech. programs in Communication System Engineering, VLSI and Embedded System Engineering, and Power and Control Systems. The department also offers three integrated B.Tech. + M.Tech. dual degree programs: i) B.Tech. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering + M.Tech. in Power & Control, ii) B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering + M.Tech. in Signal Processing & Communication Systems, and iii) B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering + M.Tech. in VLSI & Embedded Systems. Apart from the B.Tech. and M.Tech. courses, the department offers Ph.D. programs in all areas of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The department has online access to research articles from IEEE Explore digital library, Science Direct, Springer, and other globally renowned publishers. The department also provides access to high-end computational servers and software like MATLAB, GAMS, CAD Tools, etc. to foster learning and research activities. Instructional as well as advanced laboratories like Communication, Control Systems, DSP, Embedded Systems, VLSI, Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, and Power Systems are fully operational with advanced technologies, hardware equipment, and software.

The faculty members of the department have investigated and currently investigating a number of externally funded research projects from public and private partners. The department and its faculty members have many collaborations with reputed national and global organizations and their researchers. The faculty members of the department encourage the participation of students in their research works, which facilitates the students to learn about the latest research and industrial problems. Such activities also help the students develop the skill to solve the latest research and industrial problems as well as to develop new products. The lab facilities and the infrastructure are regularly upgraded as per the growing demands of global industries.

Vision

The main focus of the department is to deliver an outstanding education that equips students with the essential knowledge and skills in the field of electrical and electronics engineering. The department is dedicated to preparing a pool of potential experts who can meet future industrial demands at both national and international levels. Through its diverse range of programs, the department aims to contribute to the advancement of the electrical and electronics engineering domain while nurturing a new generation of skilled professionals and researchers. In addition to providing high-quality education, the department strongly emphasizes nurturing innovative ideas and guiding those ideas from the conceptual stage to a deliverable product. This is achieved through various stages, including theoretical analysis, feasibility studies, laboratory-level hardware implementation, testing and validation, prototype making and analysis, technology enhancement, and ultimately, product development. The students are nurtured to excel in all these stages of product development.
