Tirthankar Ghosal
About Me
Researcher in Scholarly Language Processing (AI/NLP/ML/Digital Libraries)

I primarily work on mining scholarly scientific articles, extract meaningful information from them with AI/NLP/ML techniques. Our objective is to cut through the clutter of science in academia and accelerate scientific discovery. Using Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning-Deep Learning, Bibliometric Intelligence techniques we seek to develop an AI that would help humans understand scientific knowledge better and connect the dots faster.
My current research is dedicated towards three scholarly problems: Novelty, Scope and Quality of Scientific Articles. Specifically, we seek to develop an AI that would assist editors/reviewers in the peer review process.
Research to me is an intellectual pilgrimage.
Research In Progress
Devising machine learning solutions to automatically isolate out-of-scope submissions (an automated AI peer reviewer/editor) in the peer review process.
Developing datasets from newspaper articles for Document-Level Novelty Detection. and an
Intuitive ML-based measures to detect novelty of information at the document level from newspaper articles.
Using citation networks, content extraction, bibliographic analysis to measure the impact/depth and scope of a scientific research article.
Citation Significance and Impact on Article Quality
Recommender System for academic journals from a machine learning and IR perspective using all available information in a scholarly article.
Planned works
Exploring Knowledge Graphs for Novelty Detection (Scientific Literature).
Argumentation Mining from Scientific Discourse
Academic Hedging in Scholarly Literature
