Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas 2019

Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) is a grand event which is being organized every year by the Ministry of External Affairs since 2003. PBD was started by the Hon'ble ex-Prime Minister of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpeyi. The goal of PBD is to bring non resident Indians and those of Indian origin to India and discuss how the diaspora can contribute to India and in turn get benefited. This year's PBD- PBD-2019 -had as its theme "Role of Indian Diaspora in building new India". It was held with great fanfare in Varannasi 21st-23rd January, 2019.
On the third and final day of Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas event at Varanasi, several important issues were taken up in plenary session. One such important discussion was on "INDIAN DIASPORA'S ROLE IN CAPACITY BUILDING OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN INDIA". The experts emphasized on making artificial intelligence (AI), a supplementing tool for service of humanity instead of taking away and replacing the human role itself. Experts also focussed on building strong fundamentals in maths as it is the very building block of computing in general and developing AI in particular.

Director IIT Patna Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya was a panelist in this very timely, visible and cutting-edge-technology panel. He shared his views on diaspora's role in using AI for India's development- which touched upon exchanges of faculty and students, startup-academia synergy and strong fundamentals in AI education.
