‘Tomsk Polytechnic University actively cooperates with Indian universities. Since 2014 we have signed 14 cooperation agreements.

To date, our main areas of cooperation are student exchange programs. We jointly organize short-term internships for PhD students, implement postdoctorate programs. Now seven faculty members from India work at TPU. We also develop joint academic programs,’ said TPU Vice-Rector for External Affairs Liliya Kiryanova at the meeting.

The most interesting areas for further cooperation between TPU and Indian universities are oil & gas, nuclear technology, medical technology, industrial design and water treatment. Dean International Relations of IIT Bombay Rajiv Onkar Dusane stressed that first of all, students and PhD students shall benefit from cooperation between universities of the two countries.

‘In this context the university cooperation within RIN should lead to joint PhD programs supervised by two scientific leaders. To this end, we try to identify common areas of interest with TPU faculty members and Indian IITs present here today.

We are looking for complementarity with our programs in expertise which exists here in Tomsk, which will later result in topics for joint training of PhD students.
Only then we will be able to see the outcomes of such cooperation,’ shared his vision Prof. Rajiv Onkar Dusane.

‘Our cooperation with TPU might be at different levels. First, it can be faculty exchange. Indian faculty members can come to teach particular modules in IT field, they can conduct academic research projects and it can be very interesting. Secondly, we see good opportunities for joint scientific research. For this purpose it is necessary to come up with joint research proposals,’ added Director of IIT Hyderabad Uday B. Desai.

Students from India have been studying at TPU since 2002. In 2017, there are 47 Indian students: they pursue not only full-time bachelor and master programs, but also participate in exchange programs and scientific internships.
