Open House for 10+1 or 10+2 girl students
(For girl candidates aspiring for career in Engineering)
On June 20, 2019
(Venue: Senate Hall, Admin Building, IIT Patna)
Under the stewardship of Hon'ble director, Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya, IIT Patna, JEE Cell organized an Open House for girl students (10+1 or 10+2) at IIT Patna on 20th June 2019. This Open House attempts to awaken the dormant wings of ambition and imagination in girl students and that they should never give up chasing their dreams of being educated and empowered. One of the compelling reasons why IIT Patna mooted this idea of an Open House for Girl students was because today we are in an age wherein women’s participation in anything and everything under the sun cannot be ignored. By sensitizing these students towards the magic potentials of positive environment, appropriate information and the right amount of motivation, this programme aims at enabling them to appreciate the world of Sciences and Engineering at IITs and strive each day to be part of it till they make it. We encouraged schools/colleges to nominate female candidates (utmost 5 in order of preference) from their school or college who were either topper at 10+1 level or had qualified JEE Mains. A total number of 65 girl students from different schools such as DPS, Don Bosco, St. Karen’s, Baldwin Academy, DAV, Leeds Asian, Foundation Academy, Loyola, Radiant International, RPS, Notre Dame, etc. in the programme.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Sudhan Majhi- Chairman- JEE-IIT Patna, Vice- Chairman- JEE IIT Patna, Dr. Prashant Kumar Srivastava, and Dr. Priyanka Tripathi, Nodal officer and was basically divided into three sections. After the inauguration, there was a session in which Dr. Sriparna Saha, Associate Dean- R&D, shared her thoughts on being a computer scientist. Her session was followed by Dr. Subrata Kumar’s session. Associate Dean-academics at IIT Patna, Dr. Kumar briefed the student participants about the academic programmes at IIT Patna. In the second section, we had arranged lab visits. Post lunch we had our final session in which Dr. Alpana Nayak extensively dealt with women’s role and participation in the field of sciences, followed by our Adean- student, Dr. Manoranjan Kar giving details on student’s life at IIT Patna.
