The Department of Chemistry in IIT Patna has been established since the setting up of the institute in 2008. The department is set to commence PhD program in Chemistry from July 2009. The faculty members of the department are committed to quality teaching and research. The major research areas in the department include photochemistry, chemical dynamics, total synthesis of biologically important natural products, Pot Atom and Step Economic (PASE) synthesis, Diversity Oriented Synthesis (DOS), heterocyclic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, coordination chemistry, green chemistry, synthesis of nano-scale materials and synthetic organic methodologies. The department is in the process of procuring instruments such as UV-Vis spectrophotometer, spectrofluorometer, FTIR spectrophotometer, etc.
